I’ve made some quicks tests with latest unrar binary and Macpar Deluxe par2 64 bits binary :
This little script can help you to do the same tests and compare times with binaries included in my last build… if you want to play.

I tried to compile 0.4 without any luck, I hope that you’ll be able to do it
for next release, can you release a par2 multicore ?

I’ve had a go at compiling the source.
This is a Tiger build it should work on Leopard, if it works at all.
But if you want a Leopard build just run ‘python setup.py py2app’ from within the source folder.
You’ll find the app in the dist folder after the build is complete.
Please read the relase notes and forum post before updating.

using your script on a 2008 Mac Pro 4-core with a DVD sized Wii game missing 2 50 MB parts, my findings are the par 64-bit version as part of the MacPar Deluxe package is the fastest:

it’s strange… I’ve made some new tests with intel optimized and with my conf, i get better results… 30% timeless… and no significative improvements with the macpar par2 64bits…
How much RAM do you have ?
I’ll soon update my config with 4 Go and replay some tests…

Hi rAf,
I use 4 modules of 1GB, but this has nothing to do with the results produced. In order to do a “real world” test, many of the .rar parts have blocks missing. I had too few repair blocks, so actually only verification was done. This is heavily disk based. This explains why the results were so close.
I will redo the testing properly and report.

As it turns out, the difference is rather dramatic indeed:
10 vs. 23 real mins!
I tested the latest Intel Threading Blocks optimized version by Vincent Tan vs. the MacParDeluxe 64bit version on the same fileset. The Intel version cuts time in more than half.
With the intel optimized version, CPU hovers around 300% (showing 4 near full bars), whereas the MacPar version shows around 30% CPu usage.
Also, there is a difference in disk access: the MacPar version writes 15MB/sec spikes, while the Intel version show fewer spikes of around 55MB/sec, reading about 9 MB/sec. I use a decent near empty WD 500 GB 16MB cache drive in Bay 3.
